The Video clips to the songs are watchable stories in themselves with or without the music. The music though is the most original and contagious stuff you could tune your ears into.

Tomorrow comes today Kids with guns (Gorillaz) All alone (gorillaz)

Gorillaz are a virtual band created in 1998 by Damon Albarn of alternative rock band Blur, and Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. The band is composed of four animated band members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. The band's music is a collaboration between various musicians with Albarn being the only permanent musical contributor. Their style is broadly alternative rock, but with a large number of other influences including hip hop, electronica, dub and pop.
The band's first album, 2001's Gorillaz, sold over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request.Their second studio album, Demon Days, was released in 2005 and included the singles "Feel Good Inc.", "DARE", "Dirty Harry" and "Kids With Guns / El Mañana".

Demon Days went five times platinum in the UK, double platinum in the United States and earned five Grammy Award nominations for 2006 and won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.Gorillaz have also released two B-sides compilations and a remix album. The combined sales of Gorillaz and Demon Days had, by 2007, exceeded 15 million albums.

Psychedelia

"The Psychedelic Era was A Kaleidoscope of Musical Extravagance".....

Psychedelia - Psychedelic Rarities, and other Odd stuff to muse over;
Pic left; Janis Joplin performs at the Fillmore east - psychedelic effects by the Joshua Lightshow. A classic scene from the Psychedelic era.
Psychedelic Man! What IS Psychedelic? may we ask for a moment; Psychedelic is to suggest that something is remisiscent (reminds one of, or causes to think of) of the feelings stirred by the expressionism of the "Psychedelic" Era and Movement. Classic examples of Psychedelia are perhaps; Cream, the early Pink Floyd with Syd Barret, the Byrds (to an extent) The Jefferson Airplane, the Electric Prunes, and the inimitable Jimi Hendrix, to not go on mentioning hundreds of other bands that left their impression on the Genres

Psychedelia is most probably a direct product of the LSD set of the sixties generation. Instigated by professor Timothy Leary and various accomplices, the mindalteriing drug L.S.D. was unleashed upon the youth movement of sixties Californie, soon spreading across the world as the mindboggling effects were heard of and of course, the desire to try it out was irresistible to the naturally curious flower children. The Psychedelic movement was perhaps the avant garde of the time. Although then rather short lived as far as a mega phenomenon goes, it surprisingly has experienced a massive revival several times since the sixties, and has always had a faithful following throughout the years since its birth.To many, the Psychedelic era was an era of love and oneness, for others it was a dream that turrned into a nightmare (the acid casualties)
The era left its toll on many great artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morisson - both died very early in their careers from drug overdose.

For a giggle, let's see what Wikipedia say about this Genre
Psychedelic rock evolved in the 60s as an offshoot of the rock and roll movement combining elements of rock, electronic music, eastern influences, and other diverse elements. Inspired by the use of mind altering drugs like cannabis, mescaline, psilocybin, and especially LSD, psychedelic rock broke with traditional rock and laid the roots for krautrock and experimental rock genres of the eighties and nineties. In the USA bands like the 13th Floor Elevators were the first band to overtly use the term "psychedelic" in connection with rock music which lead the way for later bands like the Grateful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane to name a few. In 1965-1967, The Beatles also were recording psychedelic rock with tracks like "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" to name a few, but were not strictly classified as psychedelic rock. Cream and Pink Floyd (with original founder Syd Barrett) embraced psychedelic music fully becoming two of the first truly psychedelic bands.

Psychedelic music could also be interpreted as simply a "surreal and dreamy feeling" in a particular song, instead of a specific genre with rules to follow. In some cases, this simply requires writing one coherent song, then to experiment recording that song in the studio while under "psychedelic influence", yielding very surreal musical results. A classic example of this method is "Bass Strings", by Country Joe And The Fish. This early track, written and recorded by Country Joe and the rest of his band in 1966, was obviously an upbeat, hasty, and offensive song of protest in a raw jug band influenced style. In 1967, this song changed dramatically, not to meet more contemporary commercial standards, but rather to re-record it as an experimental track while under the influence of LSD. The new psychedelic result was clearly self-evident in Country Joe's first studio album ("Electric Music for the Mind and Body") when "Bass Strings" featured a much slower tempo, delayed vocals, added reverb, studio reversed cymbals, electric organ, desert traveler lyrics, and a continuous blues guitar solo which together make this song a very, in the true sense of the word, "psychedelic" track.

The Jefferson Airplane website states that (the album), "After Bathing at Baxter's" was the group's attempt to capture what the psychedelic experience sounded and felt like to them from the inside." Jimi Hendrix is also renowned for his talent and guitar virtuosity being able to emulate the psychedelic experience.
Wikipedia....

The Psychedelic kaleidoscope of sense stimulating sounds and visual projections used in public performance such as concerts was conducive to the current trend in experimenting with psychotropic substances, such as magic mushrooms and l.s.d., and led to some very odd and also surprising developments in the mass consciousness of society and how its' children were beginning to behave and express their individualities.

Pink Floyd
play "Echoes" to the visuals of the movie 2001 a Space Oddyssey

Drift away with the music of the spheres plucked straight from the heavens in a Cosmic Embrace of Machine made Harmonies and Celestial sounds. A Musical work of Genius by the Masters themselves!
Echoing our reflections ... Pink Floyd is here to revive you in your apathy of non-splendour that is resiliently and reluctantly resisting the wishes of the listening mind to voyage into those realms that Pink Floyd, of all hypothetical musical vehicles of inter-dimensional travel know better than anyone to lead you to.
The track, Echoes is here presented with a wonderful visual experience applied as video taken from the movie "2001 a Space Oddyssey".

The Movie "2001 Space Oddyssey", is a science fiction film directed in 1968 by Stanley Kubrick.
written by StanleyKubrick and author of the bestseling Science Fiction Novel, Arthur C. Clarke.
The film intends to confront various elements of human evolution, along with the topics of technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life on other worlds and in space itself.

The film is highly acclaimed for its scientific realism, responsible for having pioneered in the are of special movie effects, 2001 a Space Odyssey's ambiguous and often surreal imagery,and minimal use of dialogue, stand out as the main attraction of this movie instead of the normal use of traditional narrative techniques.

Below which is a well earned tribute from the band to Syd Barret - who was perhaps the whole inspirational genius behind the Pink Floyd in the beginning, until his unfortunate journey into a separate reality from this one, where only Syd knows what the score is.
Syd Barret joined Pink Floyd in 1965 but left three years later after one album. He went on to live as a recluse, with his mental deterioration blamed on drugs. He died very peacefully in 2006.
see; Aftermath news
Syd Barret is one of the Legends of British, and in fact International Psychedelic movements, and an Icon of the Genre. I quote from the book by Mick Rock "Psychedelic Renegades, with photos of Syd Barret";
When he passed permanently into the next dimension in 2006, Syd Barrett s life had developed into something far more significant than he could ever have imagined. The man who turned his back on probable fame, fortune and the entire rock music scene over thirty years ago had become an involuntary legend. Was he a genius or just a madman? The definitive answer to this question will never be known. But Psychedelic Renegades goes a long way towards unraveling the enigma that was Syd s personality. Mick Rock s extraordinary images and frank text expose a man with enormous natural charisma, whose moods could be dark and brooding as well as buoyant with madcap laughter. Mick shared a friendship with Syd that began in the acid haze of the sixties and endured until the early seventies when Syd locked himself away. This superbly produced book covers the period 1969-71, and features the photo session in and around Syd's London flat that produced the cover for his first solo album, The Madcap Laughs; it also features images Mick shot for the now famous Rolling Stone interview in 1971, which became the last photos Syd ever posed for.

A Tribute to Syd Barret - "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"

The song Cymbalinewas used in the Movie "More", for which Pink Floyd did the soundtrack for - Syd Barrett's Influence is completely evident.

Whilst still on this post that presents more unconventional topics, i would like to move onwards to the double cd "Live in Gdansk" - this album is not so generally listened to onr known, and therefore is one of the least boring because of its lesser exposure. many albums have been simply overplayed by the media, which is a shame, as they Pink Floyd produce only, and exclusively, masterpieces of musical flavour on an Operatic scale.

Catch the 2-CD full live concert David played at the Gdansk, Poland shipyards. Includes Pink Floyd favorites "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and "Breathe." Also featured on the first bonus DVD highlights from the concert as well as a documentary on Poland's Solidarity Movement. The second DVD contains 11 bonus tracks (previously unreleased) including Barn Jams sessions and a 5.1 Surround Sound mix from On An Island.
